Oh Moldy Bread, why must you hurt me so?

I ate some moldy bread last night.

Oh, how it hurt me.

I ate some moldy bread last night.

Oh, how it hurt me.

It hurt me in the morning about the hour of 6

It hurt me in the noontime sitting at my desk

I ate some moldy bread last night.

Oh, how it hurt me.

I ate some moldy bread last night.

Oh, how it hurt me.

It also hurt at 2 today, and once again at 3

What more must I do to get it out of me?

I ate some moldy bread last night,

OH, HOW IT HURT ME!

Good Move

Well, we’re in a hiatus between what I like to call the relevant sports of football and baseball.  Most people call it March, I call it ‘Damn I wish it were spring’.  It’s almost time to start scouting for my Fantasy Baseball League (yes I am one of those), but not quite.  Spring Training has just started so I need a couple more weeks for injuries and no-shows to shake out.

So while I recover from Wonderboy and ponder about what I’d like to say about that, I was scanning my news feeds and came across a significant move for the Toronto Raptors.  I’m no longer a fan of basketball.  I gave that up once I left university because I just don’t like to watch a pro sport where most of the players are younger than me – which is eventually going to come to a head sooner than later in most other sports.  It reminds me of the fact that if I’m going to be a pro in any of these sports, I’d better start buckling down soon.  By the way, when does middle age start?

Back to basketball.  Not a fan, don’t even know many of the big names.  Well, I know them but I don’t know which school/program they came out of, their fellow alumni, etc.  I.e. I can no longer handicap the game so it would be hard to make some coin on some friendly wagers ;)  But, I did notice something that should make Canadians take notice of the once popular Raptors team.  Today they acquired Bryan Colangelo as their new GM.  And this is midseason.  You can read the article here.

This is a huge deal for the team.  Colangelo has big credibility and a proven track record for producing winning teams.  He will command respect with the current team players and more importantly, should be able to attract top talent to the organization.  Good work Raptors.  I may have to start paying more attention now.

Canadian Miracle on Ice

Hmm, I just read at wikipedia that 26 years ago to the day, USA won the gold that was dubbed (of course by the US themselves) as ‘The Miracle On Ice’

Canada plays Russia today.  They will need a miracle to beat Ovechkin and Kovalev.   I’m putting my money on Iginla to rise up and dominate like he did in 2002 against the US in the gold medal game.

Go Canada.  2:30pm today!

Thursday Feb 23 (Edit):  Well, it was a bitter moment indeed.  A 2-0 loss to knock out the ‘vaunted’ offensive juggernaut called Canada.  C’mon – the team was shutout 11 out of their last 12 periods.  What could have possibly happened?  Biff, you hit it on the nail.  Too much line-jiggering.  Pat Quinn – not a great choice.  They should have chosne Lindy Ruff, the Sabres coach.  He’s  been able to beautifully adapt his coaching style to the new offensive game in the NHL – which is the perfect style for the olympics.

At least I had a bittersweet prediction come true:  Ovechkin and Kovalev scored the 2 Russian goals.   Well, here’s hoping Russia takes the gold.  I’m very impressed with their team.  The other plus side to this is that at least the US team won’t be getting a medal either.

Chipping the rust off

Well, I went out to play poker last night for the first time in a very long time.  My buddy Gerald G.  (pocket G’s I like to call him) was hosting a 10 player no-limit night.  Typical blind structure.  Re-buys until 10:00pm and one additional add-on before going into the elimination round. The Human Footprint

The Human Footprint Map shows that man has influenced approximately 83% of the earth’s land surface.  This is very disheartening and does not give me much encouragement that my children will not be severely impacted by this.  It worries me that when looking at the map, Canada is one of the few remaining places where there is a significant amount of untouched land. Al Michaels to NBC for…..a cartoon.

I’m a big football fan.  Yes, the gridiron, the ballet that is football.  It’s a great sport on many levels regardless of the fact TV has infiltrated it with gobs of time-outs.  But it has transcended into a way of life for me on Sundays from Sept to Jan.  The day is scheduled around the magic hours of 1 – 4pm and 4:15 – 7:30.  Sometimes 8:00 – 11:00 as well.  And, don’t forget Mondays at 9:00 — yes Monday Night Football.  The 35 year tradition that has brought magic moments into my Monday evenings. Cards Plugin

I added a plugin that graphically displays cards.  Now I can easily show scenarios where I have Dave Loop dominated.  Like when I have :Ah:Kh vs Dave’s :Ac:Td

Songs in my closet

On the drive home last night I caught myself tapping my fingers on the steering wheel to the beat of “Sunday Morning“ by No Doubt.  I thought:  “You know, I would be kind of embarrassed telling people that I like this song”.  It would be akin to telling people one of my top fav movies is Crocodile Dundee.
