Easter – was it this bountiful when we were young?

By | April 10, 2012

The kids had a windfall of stuff this year. I know I’m over-eggs-agerating here but I just had to mention that over the weekend, we were involved in 3 egghunts and what I would classify as a 4th one at church.

I like the notion of the egg hunt as a vehicle for delivering the chocolate. When I was young, our egg hunts were basically a bunch of jelly beans hidden around the house. Then we had a basket full of chocolate and candy in addition.

Today, the kids find plastic egg containers around the outside of the house hidden by the easter bunny. They contain 3 or 4 goodies that once all is said and done, is about equivalent to what I would get when I was young. In addition, they still get a basket of stuff but it is mainly little toys and clothing plus 1 big chocolate treat. So from parent to kid, the ratio is about the same as it’s always been.

But then there’s the grandparents. Lots of chocolate when we visited my Mom on Friday. the last of 3 (arguably 4) easter egg hunts plus more goodies at Sonia’s parents. Wedged in between that was a hunt at St Jacobs where Christien won a GRAND PRIZE! A basket full of toys and chocolate. It’s insane at our house.

What is the true meaning of Easter again?
