Canadian Miracle on Ice

Hmm, I just read at wikipedia that 26 years ago to the day, USA won the gold that was dubbed (of course by the US themselves) as ‘The Miracle On Ice’

Canada plays Russia today.  They will need a miracle to beat Ovechkin and Kovalev.   I’m putting my money on Iginla to rise up and dominate like he did in 2002 against the US in the gold medal game.

Go Canada.  2:30pm today!

Thursday Feb 23 (Edit):  Well, it was a bitter moment indeed.  A 2-0 loss to knock out the ‘vaunted’ offensive juggernaut called Canada.  C’mon – the team was shutout 11 out of their last 12 periods.  What could have possibly happened?  Biff, you hit it on the nail.  Too much line-jiggering.  Pat Quinn – not a great choice.  They should have chosne Lindy Ruff, the Sabres coach.  He’s  been able to beautifully adapt his coaching style to the new offensive game in the NHL – which is the perfect style for the olympics.

At least I had a bittersweet prediction come true:  Ovechkin and Kovalev scored the 2 Russian goals.   Well, here’s hoping Russia takes the gold.  I’m very impressed with their team.  The other plus side to this is that at least the US team won’t be getting a medal either.
